　　本書講述*次世界大戰(zhàn)期間，中國派出14萬華工到西線為英、法軍隊服務，為協(xié)約國取得大戰(zhàn)的勝利作出了重要貢獻。主要內容：1．*次世界大戰(zhàn)與中國；2．“以工代兵”戰(zhàn)略的出籠和法國招工團；3．英國招工團；4．華工數(shù)字問題；5．華工在法國的生活；6．華工對*次世界大戰(zhàn)的貢獻；7．華工與中國尋求新的國家認同和國際化。After years of study， Professor Xu Guoqi wrote his book.It introduces the life and work situation of 140，000 Chinese laborerswho went to France during the First World War to present full and accurate historical data on their contribution to the war effort. It also probes the impact brought about by their presence in France from the perspective of the exchanges between oriental and western civilizations.

　　徐國琦，安徽樅陽人。南開大學歷史系研究生畢業(yè)，1991年赴美留學，1999年獲哈佛大學歷史系博士學位?，F(xiàn)為香港大學歷史系教授。主要著作有“國際史”三部曲：《中國與大戰(zhàn)：尋求新的國家認同和國際化》（劍橋大學出版社2005年英文版，上海三聯(lián)書店2008年中文版）；《奧林匹克之夢：中國與體育，1895—2008》（英文，哈佛大學出版社2008年出版）；《西線戰(zhàn)場陌生客：華工與次世界大戰(zhàn)》（哈佛大學出版社2011年英文版，上海人民出版社2014年中文版《一戰(zhàn)中的華工》）；目前正致力于“共享歷史”三部曲的寫作及研究：《中國人與美國人：一部共享的歷史》（哈佛大學出版社2014年英文版，廣西師大出版社擬出版中文版）；《亞洲與大戰(zhàn)：一段共有的歷史》（該書系英國牛津大學出版社約稿，已完稿，英文版應于2016年底出版）；《關于中國：一個共享的歷史》（仍在研究中）。Xu Guoqi， native of Zongyang， Anhui Province. Graduated from the Department of History of Nankai University in Tianjin， and went to study in the United States in 1991. He received a doctorate degree in history from Harvard University in 1999. Now he is Professor of History Department of University of Hong Kong.
